Making the Gods Work for You: The Astrological Language of the Psyche

From the Inside Flap

Making the Gods Work for You presents internationally renowned author Caroline W. Casey's remarkable doctrine of Visionary Activist Astrology. In this reverently irreverent mystery school disguised as a book (in which each of the planetary gods is a professor), we are invited to think of our lives as spiritual detective novels. For example, Venus teaches us that our affinities and quirks are clues to our unique mission and contribution to the world. The astrological language of the psyche is a tool for deciphering and revitalizing this sense of mission. Casey teaches you how to expand your range of intimacy with the ten parts of yourself represented by the planets, here called gods. You will learn how to use this language to reverence and feed the forces of your psyche that connect you to very real external forces. This book intends to catalyze a movement to engage the imagination of all people with a sense of humor and a desire to do collaborative good in the world.Expanding on the ideas first presented in her popular audiotape series, Inner and Outer Space, Casey explores the archetypes at the heart of human relationships, aspirations, and spiritual quests. In an engaging narrative enlivened by stories, fables, exercises, and meditations developed through her work as an astrological counselor, she provides a practical system of personal and collective liberation. Making the Gods Work for You provides us with innovative principles to live by and rituals inviting us to become active, dynamic participants in the dance of life. We can then become increasingly conscious players on the team of creation, capable of sharing our gifts with the world at this crucial historical time.

I am not an astrology fan, but I am a fan of Caroline Casey's trickster mystery school. This book is wonderful! Loaded with great insight and wit, her knowledge of astrology, mythology, language and fairy tales bring the stars and planets to life. I would highly recommend this book for anyone interested in a good read, in exploring fun and fascinating aspects of life and influence,as well as, well, astrology.

There are no words. I listened to this book on tape over 15 years ago. It changed my world view. This is a unique and original way to use astrology, for self-development and healing; and for co-creation with universal energies. I will be forever grateful to Caroline Casey for sharing her perceptions and knowledge. Read it.

Content is delightful. Informative and entertaining. But on my Kindle Oasis the type doesn't position/reposition itself correctly when there are glyphs and basic bullet lists of planetary qualities. Paragraphs get broken with one part starting where it belongs and another part turning up later in a totally unexpected place. Once you get used to this and can easily find your way to both parts of such paragraphs, all be good.

Well worth the time to read, did some of the practices in the book they seem to work. Enjoy a deeper understand of magical and symbolic language attuned through the archetypes of astrology.

Making the Gods Work for You: The Astrological Language of the Psyche I love this book. I haven't read it again in a while, so I think I'll take it to work with me later to read in my taxi. It is slow this time of year (for taxi drivers). Thank you for this wonderful book. It resonates with me so well. I know others interested in all things Astrological would love this book.

This is an outstanding reference book on the meaning of astrology and of each constellation and planet. While I've read parts of it straight through just out of interest, it's even more helpful and interesting when I have a question about a particular constellation or planet and really want to get more understanding. The author has a more powerful purpose for astrology than allowing one to find out what's going to happen. The author feels that the importance of astrology is that it can one attune one to the forces guiding our lives and so work more in alignment with them, capitalize on them even. Thus the title, "Making the Gods Work for You." This is a much more powerful look at astrology than the usual. The writing style is also unusual. It's in the direction of stream of consciousness as if the author is channeling the cosmic consciousness, a deep source of eternal knowledge -- which she may well be doing. Sometimes the writing is poetic and/or funny. While the book is well-organized into each constellation and planet, due to the writing style, it can be slow-going. So, I usually read a few pages at a time as I need the information. I've needed to re-read parts over and over so that I can take in section as a whole, kind of like being able to swallow a bite of food rather than just read a logical description of what it tastes like. This is an outstanding reference book for attaining deep understanding of each planet and constellation as well as astrology itself.

Already had this book in my library and I ordered a copy for a friend's birthday.Amazon PRIME! got it to her quickly. She loves it!Casey brings the planets to life by envisioning them as dynamic energieswithin us. She writes in a way that is direct and visceral.

This book is a great way to understand the planets and signs in a different way than many other books. There are some bits that are a bit appropriative, but overall, this is my favorite book about astrology that I've read so far!

The Principal as Curriculum Leader: Shaping What Is Taught and Tested

Review

"I found the book to be a compelling presentation of the key role of principal―understanding curriculum and how to implement effective change in all buildings. I have been searching for a book to use in my principal preparation class on Instructional Leadership and I believe I now have the book that will provide my students a comprehensive view on the principalship. With a continued emphasis on school improvement and the importance of increasing student achievement, this book is an invaluable tool for pre-service and in-service school leaders." Author: Ted Kaniuka, Associate professor of Educational Leadership"As principals, we so often get caught up in the day-to-day management of our schools. We must quit putting out fires and instead focus our attention on leading, specifically as curriculum leaders. Glatthorn, Jailall and Jailall provide a clear framework with a plan of action to put you and your school on a path to student success. Whether you need to develop a plan or simply refine the one you have, this book is a must read!" Author: Stephen Baker, Principal"Glatthorn, Jailall, and Jailall challenge principals to be leaders of curriculum in their schools, districts, and states as they consider the needs of students and classrooms during a challenging time in education systems across the country." Author: Kathy T. Spencer, Ed. D."The Principal as Curriculum Leader is a blueprint for principals to use when implementing curriculum reform. It brings clarity to the many trends, mandates, and guidelines that masquerade as simple solutions to complex issues. This book should be read and owned by every principal and curriculum leader." Author: Dr. Jerry V. Congleton, Former Superintendent"An effective school requires a strong curriculum and high quality execution in every classroom. This can only be achieved when the principal becomes a true curriculum leader. Aspiring administrators and experienced principals will do a better job leading their schools after reading this powerful and practical book." Author: Chris Terrill, Head of Schools"The Principal as Curriculum Leader provides insight and practical suggestions to support the principal’s role as a building curriculum leader. This is a must-read guide that outlines the building administrator’s role as is relates to curriculum development, implementation and the impact an effective leader can have on instructional change." Author: Barbara Haeffner, Director of Curriculum and Instructional Technology"The Fourth Edition of The Principal as Curriculum Leader: Shaping What is Taught and Tested is the most comprehensive guide I′ve seen to assist all principals in moving from school managers to true 21st century instructional leaders. Glatthorn, Jailall, and Jailall have masterfully integrated ESSA and the revised Professional Standards for Educational Leaders, weaving those tenets into how school districts not only design relevant curriculum plans, but fully implement and assess how those plans are working. This is a must-read text for any school leader who is passionate about strengthening curriculum to raise the level of achievement for all students." Author: Dr. Gregory E. Hicks, Teaching Assistant Professor, Former Principal and District Administrator"As the school’s leader, the principal must accept responsibility for curriculum leadership. This book provides a toolkit of ideas, resources, and practical applications that should empower and enrich the principal’s professional life. It clearly provides guidance in improving curriculum design, implementation, and evaluation. Probably most importantly, the book emphasizes the collaborative, respectful relationship that should exist between the principal and the teachers within the school. A key take-away is that education is everyone’s business―from resource allocation by political leadership to expectations of parents―as our country educates its children for the 21st century."
