The price was great for the number of stories included. However - it's a larger format, heavy, and not for young children. A shiny, fingerprint magnet dust cover for a children's book is the first sign. I'm disappointed in the direction this collection took with the ordering of the pages and images. The book handles the stories as a "Best of / Archival" with notes and prefaces to the stories but it does not include the simplest of things... an original cover for each story. Almost every two page spread in the original print of the books are squeezed into 1 page. So 4 original pages, become 2 pages. A 54 page book like "If I Ran The Zoo" is crammed into 25 pages. The art definitely suffers here. The full page spreads are rearranged into pieces around long columns of text. It completely loses the flow from the originals. I will be searching for other collections or single books to replace this collection, because as a fan of Dr. Seuss, I feel like I'm missing out with this mess of a book. This book got it wrong both as an archival collection and as a children's book. On the back of the book it says, "Give your favorite child this treasury of Dr. Seuss favorites!" - but I would rather give my favorite child the best versions of Dr. Seuss. Sadly, this is not it.

Bought this right before Christmas this year during an Amazon Dr. Seuss sale. Paid just over $11 for this, and it's Ah-mazing! The book is huge, a hair larger than 9.25 x 12 inches and 1.25 inches thick. It's a little larger than what would be comfortable for a lap reading book, as it will definitely take 2 hands to hold while reading it due to the size. There is a dust jacket that is metallic and very pretty.Overall a beautiful book made even better by an amazing sale price!

Yes, this book is bulky; however, I do not understand how some of the other reviewers were surprised by this. Dr Seuss books are not incredibly short and there are 13 of them in this one book. I bought this to sit out on my son's dresser in his One Fish, Two Fish themed nursery. It looks great sitting out. I have read most of the stories from it to him and have never had an issue holding the book and having him in my lap. The collection of stories is great.

ALL the best Dr. Seuss!! I loved reading Seuss to my daughter and son! The fun rhyming tales make it as enjoyable for me to read as it is for the kids to listen to. Plus, almost every tale is packed with a valuable life lesson.I bought this book to read to my new grandson, and this one book has all the best Seuss stories in a single hard cover. All the pictures are still there, plus little bios and background information on the life of the author and the stories he created.A MUST HAVE!

I was really excited about this book, but it didn't meet my expectations. The main problem is the format. Many of the illustrations lay in the middle of the book, so they disappear into the crease or look cut off. It also squeezes two pages from the original version into one page here, so it doesn't flow as well and the illustrations are much smaller even thought the book is so big.

There are no better books to entertain and educate youngsters. Some of my favorite memories are reading these *with* my children - they could read other books before entering school by mastering the vocabulary in these. And we all shared in their delight. Now my grandchildren do.

Great Story book size! Used while working at a Preschool and the kids LOVED it!Images are big and bold, kids could even start to read along due to text size.Pages with background information very interesting !

Large and heavy, has all kinds of Seuss stories like Yertle the Turtle, Green Eggs and Ham, and others. It is a heavy duty hard cover book with thick (not cheap thin) pages. I expect this to last for a while!

This map looks like an enlargement of the Sweden pages from Michelin Atlas book I have for all of Europe. It's OK for planning but if one plans on driving it is sorely lacking in detail. I'll wait until I get to Sweden and then get a map for the parts of country I'll actually be driving in.

This is a very general map. There are no enlarged areas of cities. It was not helpful during my trip so I ended up donating it to the rental car glove box.

The scale of this map makes it essentially useless - it covers the entirety of Sweden, but all the roads of any import are located in a very small area of the southern part of the country. Also, I found at least two instances where the highway number on the map did not match that on the ground.

I travelled to Scandinavia this summer and I wanted a good, very detailed map of Sweden showing where my tour was going. Unfortunately, this map did not. The tour director handed out a partial AAA map showing our sites in Sweden, which was much more detailed.

Great addition to our travel needs!

Typical road map of Sweden. Used it to get a general idea of locations and distances. Thought the $12.95 was a little high.

Its a map!!!! Very complete and easy to read.

Found it very helpful. Can't wait to use it in Sweden.

This book moved me deeply. I should say "moves me deeply," as I know I'll return to it. Sweeney and Burrows take deep, profound insights (yes, I agree Eckhart is the "Christian Rumi") and create beautiful poetry that invites me into a better understanding of, connection with, and articulation of the mystery of God and the intricacies (and intimacies) of the spiritual journey. The subtitle is an invitation: for the restless soul. This restless soul indeed found comfort in Book of the Heart.

I would have written this sooner, but one has to linger over these pages, each of which bears re-reading before going to the next. To read more than two or three at a time is profligate, because these are prayer/poems to savor, because the translators write of a mystery. They have revealed Eckhart's deus absconditus to be "hidden in plain sight," available, accessible, somehow an evanescent intimate. Here, paradox is palpable and not unearned assertion. Nor are these pretty paradoxes, but instead rude challenges to those in thrall to the romance of religion, the very challenges Jesus represented in word and deed. The translators' achievement exposes new age fads as the gnomic cliches they are, for here, rather, Sweeney and Burrows have shown us the way into a tender zone where e.e. cummings meets m. buber, where the heart beats and the breath quickens. The translators bespeak the costly grace which makes us ultimately able, in the phrase of Hannah Arendt, to love the world as it is. Here the beautiful is not an aesthetic but an ethical category. A very good and necessary job of spiritual work.

"My home is your soul, only I may descend there, and only in my nakedness".If you love Rumi,Hafez.Kabir, the joyof finding oneself among the great poets of the soul-spirit, here is such a book..Meister Eckhart's meditations, born again into the 21stCentury!. Each poem here is an intimate word spoken to the soul radiant and naked. A book destined to be among the best of the best mystical poetry available.Joseph Bottone author of "Wild Honey ,Light As Air ,Solitude, poems to feed the soul.

I just love your new volume, Meister Eckhart's Book of the Heart. The poetic meditations are actually indispensable. Although I am not finished reading through it yet, I do very much delight in The Rest, on page 44, and especially The Heart's Vision, on page 81. It is a satisfying collection of devotions and one that is spiritually significant. One's soul feels cleansed in reading the work. It is an aspirant's book for everyday people and a reminder and source of inspiration for travelers long treading the way of the sacred. Just below the surface of the lines of these ostensibly simple poems are profound truths in living mindfully which also provide insight into the epiphanies of the spirit. I would call this fine book an unexpected gift of resonant devotional literature whose perennial philosophy is accessible in contemporary society for active people.--Wally Swist, author of Huang Po and the Dimensions of Love (Southern Illinois University Press), Candling the Eggs (Shanti Arts), and Singing for Nothing: Selected Nonfiction as Literary Memoir (The Operating System)

Super Super Great!!!!! Meister Eckhart is so wonderful, and I love that I can read one or two of these in the morning and they roll around in my mind all day!! Wonderful, I hope you enjoy!!

Awesome. I use this book frequently when working with my Chaplaincy clients. This book ranks up there with the Tao Te Ching for me. Brings us back over an over again to the realization that the Kingdom of God is Within.

Its a beautiful poetry book...something not disclosed in original description. Apparently two writers arranged Mr. Eckart's words into poems. Ithought this was a volume of his works.

very simple and well written, like the format and the soft cover, easy to carry around and read at odd times. i like what he has to say alot, but he domwetimes goes on and on and does not make a lot of sense to me.

I and my husband both read this to our 3 1/2 old and our 5 1/2 year old. I have never seen the original Karate Kid movie, while he has. Now the main feature of a good kids picture book is that it needs to be written for parents too. If your kids like it, they will ask you to read it over and over and so it needs to be entertaining for the parents. So, the different perspectives matter. I don't have nostalgia, while my husband does. Both of us are ok with the book, so it works for reading to your kids.My kids both really liked the book. The story follow a boy who moves to a new town, gets bullied by some neighborhood kids and rescued by the school janitor, then asks the janitor to teach him karate. Instead the janitor has him do a bunch of chores. Then after so many chores, the janitor tells him all those repetitive motions on the chores are karate moves, and teaches him karate, and he fights in a karate tournament against the kids who tried to bully him earlier. And, it has a happy ending. My kids seemd to like it because the story was easy for them to follow, and now they say they like karate. For me, this book was fine to read. The story is concise and makes sense. It's 40 pages, so it's a pretty long picture book. Each page is a full illustration with deep rich colors. Pictures are generally similar style and quality to the front cover illustration. They are cartoony but realistic with a lot of detail. The text is simple and overlaid on the pictures. There are a few sentences to a paragraph per page. The recommended age is 4 to 8 years. That seems accurate. The language and story are simple, and the story is told heavily in pictures. This is also a book that is intended to be read to a child, and will be very simple to read once they are reading themselves. By the end of elementary school, they will have moved on. So, it's for younger kids.My husband also read this to our kids. He did watch the Karate Kid as a child, so he has some nostalgia for the story and maybe expectations. He said he liked the book. He says it's a concise clear retelling of the story and gets the story while also being written for little kids to understand and follow.Overall, this is a pretty good kids picture book. The recommended age of 4 to 8 is accurate. At 40 pages, it's a little longer than the average picture books, most of which seem to be around 32 pages. Illustrations are good quality. Both my kids, 3 and 5 liked the story. The story also worked for me and my husband, which is important because this is definitely a book that you read aloud to kids, so you have to read it too (and sometimes you have to read it over and over).

When I first introduced my daughter to the more interesting (to me) movies of my childhood, the Karate Kid was one of my first choices and greatest successes. She's seen all four of the originals now, multiple times each, and frequently requests them on family movie night. This book, of course, fits right in line with the movie, and she loves it.The art is cute, the story is retold pretty well, but I think there are some important details that are missed. To me, part of the charm of the Karate Kid is in how Daniel's childlike exuberance is tempered and refined through his training, and his self-confidence and tenacity are revealed in how he overcomes bullies and the physical damage inflicted on him during the tournament. He wins respect from the bullies in the end through force of will and through discipline, not because, as the book suggests, Mr. Miyagi's karate was "better". This book glosses over the idea of bullying, the fact that karate can be more than just hi-ya and punch and kick, and that, to me, was the true reason to watch the films.Missing in this tale are most of Miyagi's aphorisms, the entire relationship between Daniel and his girlfriend, the tournament injuries, most of the bullying, any indication of Daniel's flashes of anger, the bonsai lessons, and the beach scene. That's a lot to take away, but in the end, it makes for a more or less solid tale of what many kids would find to be the more interesting, if direct and surface level lessons of the movie. I guess the adult in me wanted just a little more.

While it's important to be able to counteract bullies, someone shouldn't have to excel at martial arts. Fans of the movie will love reading this book to their little ones.My grandson is almost four and he studies karate, so I'm going to read this to him, but I'm also going to speak to him about how important it is not to bully other children.

I just love this illustrated children's book on the 1984 classic film, The Karate Kid. Pat Morita earned a Best Supporting Actor Academy Award nomination. Ralph Maachio played Daniel. The book is beautifully illustrated and designed for younger readers. They omitted Daniel's relationship with a valley girl from the book. The book focuses on Daniel and his teacher's relationship as student and teacher. The book is ideal for young readers and even those of us who fondly remember the film.

This is a really fun book. I loved the Karate Kid movies growing up, so I was excited to share this book with my kids. The pictures are bright and absolutely beautiful. The characters are drawn so adorably. The story is cute and it really kept my kids' attention. It's a great quality book. we love it!

I enjoyed the book and remembered the movie; it's certainly a condensed version (you can't usually paint a house in one day), but it's a good book for kids. And I love Mr. Miyagi and the way Daniel learned the moves by doing the chores--and the exercise helped too. The illustrations do enhance the storyline, but I especially loved the artwork on the endpapers--the tools and all the bonsai in the garage. (They need more light, I think.)

I never saw the movie or movies, but one doesn't need to be familiar with them to enjoy this children's book. The pictures are delightful, and the story shows young children how they must work to excel at something. Plus, it offers a more "old-fashioned" idea of dealing with bullies--you have to learn to defend yourself. Some will not like that idea, but it's a tried and true method.

So fun reading this to my three year old since this movie is from my childhood. It's a simple story that hits the highlights of the movie and talks about perseverance, hard work and standing up to bullies in a positive way. Illustrations are really cute. My daughter reads it every night now.
