This book was compiled using notes Kovacs wrote in preparation for teaching his students in Edinburgh, Scotland. It's been edited for book format, but still read like a lively lecture. You can either read the lessons straight out of the book or retell them in your own words if you wish to be more authentic with the Waldorf teaching principles. The Geology section (14 lessons) can serve as inspiration for how to teach Geology and Mineralogy as the examples in the book are relevant for students in that part of the world. We chose to read it as is and gleaned much from the content. The chapters are short, don't contain too much new content and are written in spoken language (as if you were listening to the teacher present it in class).The Astronomy section (27 chapters) begins by relating the sun to our heartbeat as a means to connect the child to the cosmos. The analogies continue throughout the chapters. Great connections are made between the seasons and day in relation to positions on the planet that I haven't seen made elsewhere. Lessons are enhanced by drawing your own diagrams to complement the lesson, though the book comes with many simple drawings to explain the content. Unlike our Waldorf curriculum which begins the Astronomy block with the constellations and the stories of Ancient Greek and Roman mythology, this book jumps right into the science content, with the Zodiac being presented in chapter 26. The Astronomy section, like the one on Geology, contains short chapters that would easily complement any curriculum or be the basis for your own main lesson block on the subject.We used the Geology section for our Mineralogy block and the Astronomy for the first of two Astronomy blocks. We homeschool using the Live-Education Waldorf curriculum and used this book to supplement the curriculum. We really enjoyed this book and have since purchased the rest in the series to accompany our other main lesson blocks.

Absolute garbage: riddled with mysticism, presumed knowledge of "the ancients," and other claptrap. It isn't even wrong.This is not a book to be set aside. This is a book to be flung aside with great force. No intellectually honest person would touch this steaming heap with a ten meter pole.

Full of landmarks, hotel recommendations, restaurant guides, and even historical info, this little handbook made our 10-day nightmare into a peaceful, family-bonding vacation... On several occasions, we detoured off the main highways to explore the "alternate" route (at the behest of the book) and were NEVER disappointed. Spent the night in Jasper National Park. Stopped to see the Giant Beaver in Alberta. Swam for two days in White Horse's Canda Games Centre. Always knew where we were going, when we'd be there, and where we were going to stay and eat, all thanks to "The Milepost."Would NOT recommend driving to Alaska from the Lower 48 without it!

We bought the Milepost before our trip to Alaska and it was a wonderful guide all along the way. But make sure you get a current edition, because things up there change quite frequently! New business owners don't always know how difficult a life it can be in the dead of winter and can't survive the lack of tourists. But this book gives a mile-by-mile description of what's in the surrounding area. We would have missed many things along the way: like the license plate forest, the rock art along the highway, the micro-brewery, the First Nation Museum, the local fishing hole, the attempts at preventing road heaving, the wildlife overpass. If you have any doubts about visiting this awesome state, my advice is to just do it(but not in the winter!)! You'll never regret the scenery, wildlife, or people!

I have never seen anything as complete as this "bible" of everyting Alaskan. It is a travel guide, road condition guide, fisherman's guide and anyting else you ever wanted to know about the state and surronding provinces. I used it two years ago on my first trip to Alaska, and would have missed many things without it. They do revise it every year; I checked and found some things different from my 2007 version to the 2009 one. It is laid out by highway with mileage to and from major points. In addition, side roads are integrated within the major highway listings with their own mileage markers.Whether you are flying, driving, or going by ferry, it is a "gotta have".

I am not an astrology fan, but I am a fan of Caroline Casey's trickster mystery school. This book is wonderful! Loaded with great insight and wit, her knowledge of astrology, mythology, language and fairy tales bring the stars and planets to life. I would highly recommend this book for anyone interested in a good read, in exploring fun and fascinating aspects of life and influence,as well as, well, astrology.

There are no words. I listened to this book on tape over 15 years ago. It changed my world view. This is a unique and original way to use astrology, for self-development and healing; and for co-creation with universal energies. I will be forever grateful to Caroline Casey for sharing her perceptions and knowledge. Read it.

Content is delightful. Informative and entertaining. But on my Kindle Oasis the type doesn't position/reposition itself correctly when there are glyphs and basic bullet lists of planetary qualities. Paragraphs get broken with one part starting where it belongs and another part turning up later in a totally unexpected place. Once you get used to this and can easily find your way to both parts of such paragraphs, all be good.

Well worth the time to read, did some of the practices in the book they seem to work. Enjoy a deeper understand of magical and symbolic language attuned through the archetypes of astrology.

This is an outstanding reference book on the meaning of astrology and of each constellation and planet. While I've read parts of it straight through just out of interest, it's even more helpful and interesting when I have a question about a particular constellation or planet and really want to get more understanding.The author has a more powerful purpose for astrology than allowing one to find out what's going to happen. The author feels that the importance of astrology is that it can one attune one to the forces guiding our lives and so work more in alignment with them, capitalize on them even. Thus the title, "Making the Gods Work for You." This is a much more powerful look at astrology than the usual.The writing style is also unusual. It's in the direction of stream of consciousness as if the author is channeling the cosmic consciousness, a deep source of eternal knowledge -- which she may well be doing. Sometimes the writing is poetic and/or funny. While the book is well-organized into each constellation and planet, due to the writing style, it can be slow-going. So, I usually read a few pages at a time as I need the information. I've needed to re-read parts over and over so that I can take in section as a whole, kind of like being able to swallow a bite of food rather than just read a logical description of what it tastes like.This is an outstanding reference book for attaining deep understanding of each planet and constellation as well as astrology itself.

Already had this book in my library and I ordered a copy for a friend's birthday.Amazon PRIME! got it to her quickly. She loves it!Casey brings the planets to life by envisioning them as dynamic energieswithin us. She writes in a way that is direct and visceral.

This book is a great way to understand the planets and signs in a different way than many other books. There are some bits that are a bit appropriative, but overall, this is my favorite book about astrology that I've read so far!

Allan A. Glatthorn (1924–2007) was a major contributor to the third and fourth editions; his research used in the preparation of the first and second editions of Writing the Winning Thesis or Dissertation: A Step-by-Step Guide was the foundation for the third edition. He was the Distinguished Research Professor of Education (Emeritus) in the College of Education of East Carolina University, where he advised doctoral students, chaired dissertations, and taught courses in supervision and curriculum. He was formerly Professor of Education at the Graduate School of Education of the University of Pennsylvania. Prior to his university assignments, he was a high school teacher and principal. In his work as a professor, he chaired close to 100 dissertations. He is the author of numerous professional books, several of which have been published by Corwin.
