#5,983 Paid in Kindle Store (See Top 100 Paid in Kindle Store)

After reading the first two books in this series, I waited impatiently for the third one and found it a bit disappointing. I have enjoyed the humor, which is much better done than most so called humorous cozy mysteries, which are often simply irritating. Flo is a great character, sassy without being obnoxious and as independent as her position allows and then some. This series has enough originality to set it apart from most of the light mystery books on Kindle. I did find it a little hard to believe that the very British upper-crust accepted her presence and snooping so easily, but this is fun fiction so who cares? I also found Lady Hardcastle's character had lost something in this story and the slight edginess that I felt and enjoyed in the first two books wasn't there. I missed that. ***Slight spoiler. In addition, the characters were all given a happily-ever-after that seemed contrived. Still, it is a fun, quick read with characters that make you glad you spent a couple of hours in their company. I would recommend this--but read the series in order--and will definitely be looking for another episode in the life and times of Flo and Lady Hardcastle.

Bravo!!! I hardly ever write reviews but just had to commend this fabulous author for his delightful stories. I've read every Lady Hardcastle book in the series and just can't get enough (hopefully there will be a book 4, and more?). Lady Hardcastle and her "tiny" servant, Armstrong, are extremely charming ladies. The playful banter and serious times they have are so captivating, and I love the word play and English idioms. I think the author does a great job in keeping suspense in the whodunits. There always seems to be a twist at the end after you think you've figured out the mystery! Jolly good reading, what?!!

I really enjoyed the 3 books in "A Lady Hardcastle Mystery" series. I loved the language (so English!), I have spent many years away from England and was delighted to read words and expressions that I had not heard for years. I even enjoyed the mention of a midnight feast - having been at boarding school myself, and having experienced the excitement of a midnight feast at the end of term. I would definitely read the next book available written by this author.

I won this book as part of a Goodreads First Reads giveaway. It's the year 1909 and Lady Hardcastle and her maid, Florence, have been invited to Lord Riddlethorp's estate for some motor racing and socializing. When one of the other guests dies during the first race, they initially think it's just a terrible accident. Closer inspection shows the car was tampered with which means murder. Can Lady Hardcastle and her maid find the killer before anyone else is harmed? This was a very well written period piece cozy mystery that I sadly just could not get into. The first half was promising and kept me mostly interested, but the middle of the book was taxing and I found myself losing interest, barely able to finish a chapter before I'd set it down again. By the time we got to the second half where the story really started picking up, my heart just wasn't in it anymore. It was enjoyable, but my attention had already started waning so it was hard to really feel immersed in the story. I have never read any other books in this series and although you can read this as a standalone, I feel it would be best to read them in order. It might also help with getting to know the characters better since, quite honestly, I didn't care for any of them. Not even Lady Hardcastle or Florence. Their banter, which was entertaining initially, became stale and annoying halfway through. The rest of the characters, and there were a lot of them, were equally lackluster. When it came to the big reveal, it took me a minute to figure out who they were talking about as I couldn't remember who that was. Maybe if I had read the first two I would feel differently. I think at some point I will try reading the first one as I do typically enjoy these type of mysteries and the author does have a nice flair for writing.

Lady Hardcastle and her maid, and good friend, Florence Armstrong were looking forward to a week in the country at Lord Riddlethorpe’s estate – Lady Hardcastle’s brother Harry would be there and she hadn’t seen him in awhile. The newly invented motor cars that were going to be making their debut on the estate’s new racing track were the main draw for the friends who were all arriving – the accompanying parties were another enticement. But when disaster struck the day of the first race, the initial thought of driver error was soon forgotten. Was it murder? The police didn’t believe so, which meant Lady Hardcastle and Flo set to work immediately to discover the culprit. As secrets came to light, it seemed there were sinister plans afoot. But would Lady Hardcastle and Flo find answers before it was too late?Death Around the Bend by T E Kinsey is the 3rd in the Lady Hardcastle cosy mysteries, and my first by this author. I thoroughly enjoyed it – set in the early 1900s, it is highly entertaining with many laugh out loud moments. Lady Hardcastle and Flo are great characters with their dry wit and great camaraderie – I have no hesitation in recommending this cosy mystery; and I’ll be looking at reading the two prior to this one as well.

This is the third in the Lady Hardcastle series. Although, her lady's maid, Flo, should get equal billing since many times it is her unusual circus talents and her astute perceptions that break the cases. The plot continues to be mysterious right up to the end although there are plenty of clues along the way (yes, a good many red herrings too). Can't wait for the next one!!!!!
